Hickory is what I call a special material. It’s a short list but it contains hickory, marble, soapstone and cherry. These are all elements that remind me of my most challenging child. If you love them, you have to love all the things about them. Cherry will change its mind about what color it is as soon as you finish the trim and still feels like a hug. Soapstone will take the most unbelievable heat from a cast iron pan but then remind you how incredibly sensitive it is when you pull that pan instead of picking it up. Marble will get away with almost everything because it’s just so pretty, you affectionately accept all the flaws. Hickory is the stubborn kid that won’t take anything from anybody. It’s incredibly strong and in your face. It makes no apologies and at the end of the day, you respect it, and to top it all off, you like it so much more than you ever thought you would, it ends up being your favorite.
